Earth holidays don't seem strange or foreign to me anymore. Last weekend was "Mother's Day", and celebrating it didn't seem weird at all-- it was normal, even though we didn't have anything like it in the Fire Nation.

You could make the argument that I've been here for too long, but I'm still not convinced it's a bad thing.

Can't see too much bad about pickin' up customs you like.

New things are good. It helps keep a person on their toes.

I suppose.

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2011-05-11 01:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure holidays fall under that category, though.

[identity profile] ironicnotcynic.livejournal.com 2011-05-11 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe not.

I find that even simple and small things, or particularly normal things like holidays, aren't often what they seem and can lead to some sort of interesting experience.

Mother's Day is basically what it seems, though. There's nothing really unsual there.

Well as our holidays go, Mother's Day's not a bad one to pick up.

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2011-05-11 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree. Some Earth holidays I find pointless, but this one isn't so bad.

I still like appreciating mine every day, though.

[identity profile] littlemissaria.livejournal.com 2011-05-11 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh I agree. It shouldn't be used as an excuse to spend the rest of the year being unappreciative. But it's still nice to have the excuse to go that little bit extra.

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2011-05-11 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
... Hm. That makes sense.

[identity profile] littlemissaria.livejournal.com 2011-05-11 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
So, how did you celebrate? Did your mom enjoy it?

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2011-05-11 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. We went to the beach. Last year we went to a spa.

[identity profile] littlemissaria.livejournal.com 2011-05-11 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, that sounds nice.

That's another great thing about Mother's Day - it's a chance to actually spend time with your mom.

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2011-05-11 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, she works a lot. But weekends are generally less busy for her.

[identity profile] littlemissaria.livejournal.com 2011-05-11 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Sounds like my mom. Or, well, I guess that's how it still is.

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2011-05-11 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
What job does she have?

[identity profile] littlemissaria.livejournal.com 2011-05-11 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
She works at my school.

[identity profile] emberandash.livejournal.com 2011-05-11 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
As a teacher?

[identity profile] ironicnotcynic.livejournal.com 2011-05-12 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
I guess my family's just sort of weird.

It is a nice chance to do something for my mom, since she lives sort of far away.

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2011-05-12 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
Mine is on another world right now. I'm glad I can worldhop.

[identity profile] ironicnotcynic.livejournal.com 2011-05-12 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
That's good. So you get to see your mom often?

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2011-05-12 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
Every day.

[identity profile] ironicnotcynic.livejournal.com 2011-05-12 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
I bet she likes that a lot.

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2011-05-12 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
She wishes I were there all the time.

[identity profile] ironicnotcynic.livejournal.com 2011-05-12 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
So does my mom. She calls every day to check on me and to try to convince me to move to Orlando, marry some guy and start popping out babies.
I know it's really that she loves me, and doesn't like me being in "the big city where's there's muggers and crazies running around everywhere." She just misses me, I guess.
