Well. That was certainly an interesting holiday.

I still don't see why any of you got me gifts (those that weren't immature jokes, that is). I don't celebrate the holiday, and besides- were you really expecting anything in return?

{LOCKED TO TY LEE}

I have something for you. I'll give it to you the next time I see you, I suppose.

{LOCKED TO MAI}

...

I'm having something delivered to your house. Call it an act of diplomacy.

OOC: Yue, I'll still finish that thread in the party post if you want, but I'm setting this entry to take place after that. <3

I think the point is giving without expecting anything in return.

[identity profile] nicecollarbones.livejournal.com 2008-12-27 06:22 am (UTC)(link)
Because as soon as you expect retribution, it ceases to be a gift and becomes a transaction.

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2008-12-27 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
I realize that. What I meant was, why would someone give something to me without expecting something back?

[identity profile] nicecollarbones.livejournal.com 2008-12-27 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, well.

I suppose giving things to others makes people feel like they did something good, which in turn makes them feel good about themselves as people.

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2008-12-27 06:29 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, so it's for selfish reasons. I suppose that makes more sense.

[identity profile] nicecollarbones.livejournal.com 2008-12-27 06:37 am (UTC)(link)
I suppose you could see it that way.

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2008-12-27 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sure they all thought that they were doing such a good deed, buying gifts for the poor, friendless Princess Azula.

How pathetic and misguided.

[identity profile] nicecollarbones.livejournal.com 2008-12-27 06:42 am (UTC)(link)
...I, er, don't think most people really think it through that far.

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2008-12-27 06:42 am (UTC)(link)
Well, they're certainly not doing it because they like me. The selfish explanation is the most logical.

[identity profile] nicecollarbones.livejournal.com 2008-12-27 06:45 am (UTC)(link)
Why are you so sure they don't like you?

...if I may ask.

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2008-12-27 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
Because I am not a likable person, personality-wise.

[identity profile] nicecollarbones.livejournal.com 2008-12-27 06:50 am (UTC)(link)
You could say that neither am I.

People's tastes wary for a reason.

[identity profile] nicecollarbones.livejournal.com 2008-12-27 06:55 am (UTC)(link)
...I think I'd rather not be seen as someone who enjoys gossip. If I can help it.

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2008-12-27 06:56 am (UTC)(link)
The majority of what you would hear would not be gossip.

[identity profile] nicecollarbones.livejournal.com 2008-12-27 07:03 am (UTC)(link)
...Well, if you say so. But are you sure it wouldn't be easier just telling me?

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2008-12-27 07:03 am (UTC)(link)
Why bother? I don't see the point.

[identity profile] nicecollarbones.livejournal.com 2008-12-27 07:06 am (UTC)(link)
...well.

I... suppose then I'll have to ask and get back to you later.

[identity profile] nicecollarbones.livejournal.com 2008-12-27 07:30 am (UTC)(link)
...unless you're rather I didn't, after all.

[identity profile] peoplesprincess.livejournal.com 2008-12-27 07:32 am (UTC)(link)
I have no opinion either way.
